Adnan Hamza – CEO and founder of ABC Marketing and Distribution.
Today, we had the opportunity to interview Adnan Hamza, the CEO of ABC (Arab Broadcast Content), who has built a reputable position in the broadcast and media industry. His strong vision led the company to become a leader in production, distribution, and high-quality dubbing services across the Mena region. His dedication makes ABC one of the trusted companies for local and international audiences.
So, in this interview, he shares his entrepreneurial journey, leadership approach, and future projects of ABC.
Q1: Can you share with us what motivated you to start your business?
I started my career in advertising but switched to broadcasting as the industry evolved. In the 1990s, with the proliferation of entertainment and specialty TV stations, I saw the growing demand for quality content to fill the 24-hour TV schedule. That encouraged me to buy and distribute programs specifically designed for the Arab market. After that, I was constantly visiting international markets to analyze the content and ensure its suitability to the cultural context of the Arab region. In early 2007, I established ABC and expanded our activities to include distributing and producing artistic programs and establishing dubbing and translation studios, where we started producing and distributing dubbing content. Since then, our vision has been to provide quality content and make a lasting impact in the broadcasting industry.
Q2: How do you stay ahead of technological advancements, and how does it impact your business model?
We stay updated by regularly attending technology-specialized exhibitions. These events help us discover the latest Cinema and Cameras specialized in cinematography and television, sound systems, broadcast equipment, and other production tools. These advanced technologies and software allow us to provide quality content. This approach ensures advanced content for broadcasters, improves our reputation and maintains ABC’s high standards.
Q3: What role does AI play in current processes and plans?
Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool in film production, particularly in scriptwriting, casting, and even CGI. However, as per our personal experience, AI has not brought the results we expected, particularly in dubbing and translation, where accuracy is essential. Our dubbing studios are known for their human touch, which brings out the shades of Arabic languages with their multiple meanings. We continuously monitor AI developments, but for now, human talent is irreplaceable, especially in the field of dubbing and translation. It also helps us to preserve the honesty of the original content.
Q4: Can you share one of the significant challenges you have faced in your work? And how you overcame it.
One of the biggest challenges was producing the series “Waiting for Jasmine” in 2015. We filmed this series in war-torn Syria, where we faced extreme challenges politically and physically. It was also in the worst winter, with sub-zero temperatures and continuous fighting, which exposed the filming crew and actors to significant risks. However, the dedication and strength of our team helped us overcome the circumstances and complete the project. This experience taught us the importance of determination, planning, and team management to get the job done despite all the obstacles. It proved to us that when the entire team has a clear vision, challenges will also lead to success, and the series was nominated for an International Emmy Award in 2016.
Q5: What’s your approach to leadership, and how do you promote a positive company culture?
For me, leadership is about creating an environment of trust and respect. I believe that employees should feel appreciated for their efforts and supported. To this end, we focus on continuous training and professional growth to ensure staff stay at the top of their game. At ABC, we promote open communication, so any employee should share their ideas without hesitation. That not only helps to create a positive culture but also encourages creativity and innovation.
Q6: How do you ensure your business remains flexible and responsive to market trends?
We monitor industry trends and market demands closely through regular research and participation in multiple exhibitions. That helps us anticipate potential challenges and adjust our strategies accordingly. We also seek feedback from our customers, who offer valuable information about current needs. By building strategic partnerships, we quickly adapt to new market trends. Innovation is our primary approach, and it helps us meet the changing demands of the media and broadcast industry.
Q7: Can you discuss a recent project that has been particularly successful for your company?
The company has carried out several important and distinguished projects. It has achieved great success in drama and program production and distinguished dubbing operations for the most critical international films and dramas. The company always has annual plans for distinguished and vital projects. One of our successful projects was organizing the DISCOP Dubai International Broadcast and Content Market. This B2B event brings key players from all over the world together and offers a platform for content exchange and collaboration. Also, this event was inaugurated by his highness Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum and attracted global attention. So, it highlights ABC’s ability to bring international and local broadcasters together, helping to create valuable collaborations. However, it was a significant step in expanding ABC’s reach and making a lasting impact at the Global industry level.
Q8: What are your long-term goals for Arab Broadcast Content, and how are you working towards achieving them?
Our long-term goal is to become a leading producer and distributor of high-quality content on a global scale. We are currently preparing to produce distinguished dramas in the coming years, guided by a new vision that incorporates directing and production expertise from outside the Arab region. In the future, we plan to enhance our presence in the industry by hosting the DISCOP exhibition in Istanbul, which will further establish ABC’s role in the global broadcast market. Additionally, we aim to open more regional offices to support our growth, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of innovation while maintaining our commitment to excellence.
Adnan Hamza’s journey to excellence and strategies has told us about growth and valuable lessons in innovation and leadership. As ABC continues to lead in quality broadcast production, its commitment to adapting trends and promoting positive company culture is the key to its
